Real streets. Unreal characters.

There's a spot open for yours.

A character account (not ours) posted its first video on Sept 17. Two weeks and 8 posts later: ~235K followers. The method we teach: film a real person on a real street. AI just changes who. Characters School is the complete step-by-step to design your own ultra-realistic AI character and drop it into real phone footage.

We catalogued 29 designs in two weeks. Card #30 is blank.

So is #31. And #32. Bowl cuts, tiny mustaches, tweed, terrifying calm. The cast is still being written. The empty desk is for the character only you can make.

AI-generated portraits made for this page. Not real people, not real accounts, not affiliated with any creator.

When people can't tell at first glance, they stop. They comment. They send it to a friend. That's the engine. We teach you to build the double-take, and to label it honestly.

⏳ Why now

The trend just started. The time is now.

This format blew up about two weeks ago. The press is scrambling to explain it, and people in the comments are still asking how it's made.

Most of the how-to is scattered across random tutorials, many in other languages. Characters School is the complete step-by-step, in one place, in plain English.

You don't have to be first. Being early helps.

Early in a format, the mystery does a lot of the work. People stop scrolling to ask "how?" Later, more people know the trick and the feed gets more crowded. The copycat accounts show you don't need to be the original to get noticed. They don't prove you will be, and nobody can honestly tell you how long this window stays open.

  • New characters are still showing up. The cast is still being written.
  • The tools just got good enough to make viewers do a double-take. (That's exactly why we label.)
  • A fresh format gets curiosity, not eye-rolls.

Being early is an advantage, not a guarantee. But you can't be early later.

The breakout account sits at ~235K followers on 8 posts. Know Your Meme, Dexerto, LADbible and The Tab have covered the trend (the trend, not us). Most streets still have no character walking them.

🪄 From "huh?" to "HOW?" in 4 steps

Phone clip in. "Wait… is that real?" out.

Our method starts with a real person walking through a real place, filmed on a phone. AI just changes who. No green screen, no 3D software, no acting. A phone, a character and an AI swap that keeps the real motion, the real camera movement and the real street.

1
STEP 01

Design

Build a character people remember from one frame, and keep it identical in every video.

  • A photoreal full-body character sheet with ChatGPT image gen or Nano Banana Pro
  • The caricature formula: exaggerate one or two features, keep everything else painfully real
  • A consistency library, so video #12 looks exactly like video #1
2
STEP 02

Shoot

15–28 seconds of real life, on your phone.

  • Tripod, daylight, slow deadpan movement. The swap likes calm, and so does the comedy.
  • 4K with HDR off (yes, off, and we show you why)
  • Locations and shot recipes that make the AI's job easy
3
STEP 03

The swap

AI replaces the person with your character. The street, the motion and the camera stay real.

  • Higgsfield Genjutsu (Object Swap), step by step
  • Kling 3.0 Motion Control and Kling O3 Edit, plus Seedance 2.5 where it wins
  • Which tool for which shot, so you burn fewer credits on bad takes
4
STEP 04

Polish & post

Make it look expensive, and stop Instagram from turning it to mush.

  • Native 1080p, upscale only when needed, a touch of film grain
  • Export at 1080x1920, H.264, 12–15 Mbps, with "upload at highest quality" on
  • Add the AI label. Every platform, every time.

💡 Heads-up: AI video tools cost money. Pay-as-you-go starts around $0.17 per second of generated video, and creator plans run around $49/month. The course shows the cheapest route that still looks premium.

📓 The timetable

Class schedule: 8 modules, blank page to posted.

Modules 1–5 are the core method, including AI labeling and the no-go basics. Both plans get them. Modules 6–8, the Prompt Vault, templates and the Update Lab are Pro only.

🎒 Admissions office

Is that spot yours?

ACCEPTED

Enroll if…

  • You saw one of these videos, thought "how?!", then thought "why not me?"
  • You want an audience, but talking to a camera makes you want to move to the woods. Your character is the face. You keep yours.
  • You have a weird sense of humor and nowhere to put it.
  • You're a creator, editor or marketer who wants a fresh format while it's still fresh.
  • You've got a phone, ideally a computer, a small tool budget and a few hours a week to make something weird.
DETENTION

Skip it if…

  • You want a guaranteed-viral button. It doesn't exist. We looked under the couch.
  • You won't spend a cent on AI tools. They cost real money (see the FAQ). We show you the cheapest route, not a free one.
  • You want to fool people for real, impersonate a real person or skip AI labels. Wrong school.
💸 Field trip: the money

Yes, fake people have real side hustles.

A character with an audience is basically a tiny media company with a mustache. Here are 7 routes. Some we've spotted in the wild, and some are standard creator programs. None are automatic. They're possibilities, not promises.

Spotted in the wild

Personal videos

An AI "gentleman" character offers personal videos on Cameo from $20. Birthday wishes, but make it deadpan.

Spotted in the wild

Ad spots

Some character homepages sell ad space, literally a box that says "UR AD HERE." Very Y2K. Very real.

Spotted in the wild

Merch & gift shop

Some character accounts already run merch and gift shops. Put that face on a mug, a tee or a sticker.

Brand deals

Your character strolls past a storefront, holds a product, drops the catchphrase. Always disclose it clearly: #ad plus the platform's paid-partnership label. The FTC requires clear disclosure.

Platform payouts

TikTok Creator Rewards (1-min+ videos), YouTube Shorts revenue share, Facebook content monetization. Eligibility rules apply.

Done-for-you

The café down the street could use an ad people actually watch. Make its own deadpan mascot, and charge for it.

Affiliate & own offers

Point your audience to tools you actually use (with a clear affiliate disclosure), or to something you made. Like a course. Like this page. Hi.

Earnings disclaimer: These are examples we've seen publicly and standard creator programs. They are not results from our students (the course is brand new), and they aren't predictions of what you'll earn. Many people who try any creator business earn little or nothing. Your results depend on your character, effort, consistency, platform rules, algorithms and luck. Program eligibility rules apply. We don't guarantee income, views, followers or virality.

Questions from the back row

Can't find your answer? Email hello@charactersschool.com and we'll get back to you.

Claim my spot — from $9 →
Do I have to show my face? +

Nope. Someone walks in the base clip (you, a friend, your cousin who owes you one), and the swap replaces them with your character. That face never makes it into the final video. If it's a friend, get their OK first.

Do I need a computer? +

Recommended, but not required to start. You can design and shoot from your phone. For the swap and export steps, a laptop or desktop with a modern browser makes life much easier. No beefy graphics card needed, because the heavy lifting happens on the tools' servers.

How much do the AI tools cost? +

Real talk: they're not free. Pay-as-you-go starts at roughly $0.17 per second of generated video (about $3.40 for a 20-second generation at that rate), or creator plans run around $49/month. Retakes happen, so budget for a few tries. Prices are set by the providers and change often. The course shows the cheapest route that still looks premium, and how to waste fewer credits on bad base clips. That money goes to the tool companies, not us.

Is this allowed on Instagram and TikTok? +

AI-generated content is allowed on both when you follow their rules, and that includes labeling realistic AI content. We show you how to use Instagram's AI-generated profile label and TikTok's AI labels, plus the no-go list: no real people's likeness without consent, no impersonation, nothing passed off as real news. Rules change, so always check the current ones. We're not affiliated with either platform.

Do I need to speak great English? +

The lessons are in English, but they're simple and visual, and most prompts are copy-paste. The format runs on visuals and a deadpan face, not dialogue, so it travels. The comments under these videos already come in more than one language ("La IA se pasó," anyone?).

Is it really a one-time payment? +

Yes. $9 or $27, once. No subscription from us. The only recurring costs are the AI tools you choose, paid to their providers.

How do I get access, and for how long? +

Your login arrives by email right after checkout. Watch on any device, at your own pace. Access is lifetime (details in our Terms), so come back whenever a tool changes or a new character idea hits at 2 a.m.

Will the lessons stay up to date? +

AI video models change almost monthly. Pro includes the Update Lab: when a tool changes or a better one shows up, we test it and add a lesson. Kling 4.0, for example, is announced for October 2026, and Pro gets a lesson once it ships and we've put it through its paces. Starter covers the core method as it stands today.

How fast will I see results? +

Your first finished character video can happen as soon as you've worked through Modules 1–5, and the steps are laid out so you can start shooting the day you join. Views, followers and money are different. Nobody can honestly promise those, including us. They depend on your character, your consistency, the algorithm and some luck. Showing up early with a strong character and a steady rhythm is your best shot, not a guarantee.

What if I don't like it? +

Email us within 7 days of purchase and we'll refund your course payment in full. That's the Deadpan Guarantee. Third-party AI tool charges are between you and those providers.
